Good Reads

NEWS WITH A CLICK

I suggested to my mom that we ought to have a book corner on the newsletter.  A place where we could review or tell about good books, or send it some good quotes.  I know that many of us have very busy lives, and reading might be a luxury, but nonetheless I try to keep a book going.  It might be fun to share what we are reading, and if it was good.  Maybe it could kind of replace a bookclub.  I would love to belong to a book club, but just don’t have the time (and I could never keep up with their reading requirement, my time to read is limited!)  This weekend I am going to write up something about East of Eden by John Steinbeck.  I just finished it recently and it was very very good!

Anyone is looking for a good read for a twelve year old Alex has a new favorite"Lemony Snicket"  has a great series that she is hooked on....while she awaits the next Harry Potter.

I read Billy Letts new book "Shoot the Moon" while we were on vacation.  I love her writing style and her very quirky characters.  She seems to like references to WalMart.....if you remember "Places in the Heart"

I also read a couple of Anne Perry mysteries which are a quick read that requires no concentration.  I love her period mysteries that are in and about England at the turn of the 19th century.

I also stared a great collection of short stories by William Trevor which ale also proving to be interesting.

I just finished reading Wishing You Well .  A light read about life in the mountains of Virginia around the 1940's by David Baldacci.  Easy reading, a little long in places but generally historical thought on rural life and the people who live it.  By the way I tried another of this writers books and was most unhappy...............it was more like T Clancy

Bobbie and I have been on an Alice Hoffman kick lately  "Redbird House'' has been a favorite of almost anyone who has read it.  I used to read all of Hoffman's books as soon as they were off the press, but I got burned out and left them alone for a while .....this is a goood one. Alex has been reaading some of Hoffman's books for young adults and has been know to devour then in several hours.
